Leupold Binoculars

The Leupold Cascade series binoculars have a very clear and sharp image, due to their improved Phase coated optics.

The 8x42 is particularly suited to bird watching and nature studies as well as being an excellent binocular for general all purpose use. The good field of view allows the user to quickly find the subject.

These really are a very nice, both optically and physically, pair of binoculars.

The roof prism design and centre focusing make them easy to use and quick to focus. Twist up/twist down eyecups are provided to enable full field of vision when used with or without spectacles.

The Leupold Cascade binoculars are fully waterproof, rubber armoured and feature close focusing to 3m (10 feet).

Supplied with case, strap and a manufacturers limited lifetime guarantee.

Are the prisms phase coated?

eebc - Chris.

According to the box the prisms are:
"magnesium fluoride coated BAK4 prisms for enhanced photopic transmission"

So the short answer is no, they are not phase corrected. Having said that, they do have an excellent image.

I have just purchased a pair of these, delivery was very fast and they were well packed.

I was upgrading from a pair of Opticron binoculars (Countryman MC) and these are a massive amount better. The image is very and they are very easy binoculars to use, focusing is quick and I have found that I can move from near birds to far off birds and still observe them without having to adjust the focusing.

So far I am very happy with the Leupold binoculars. Thanks for the great service.

Yes, the Leupold binoculars have a dioptric adjustment (as do all the binoculars we sell).

We currently have them in stock.

Hi. I am looking for a binocular to augment my old, optically sound but very heavy Swift Skipper Mk 2, 7x50 binoculars. These binoculars are, to my eyes optically very good but their weight means that they are not used nearly enough. I am looking for a good general purpose binocular which needs to be rugged enough for me to take on my travels in many parts of the globe inc deserts, african plains and nearer to home Exmoor. They will be used for wildlife spotting the occasional sailing trip and general observation. I was thinking about purchasing a 8x42 binocular and like the look of the Leupold Cascades or the SwiftHorizon series - which is the better unit? Or would I be better of with the cheapr Opticron Oregon units?Manythanks

eebc - Jamie.

It is a case of your more you pay, the better you get. The Opticron Oregon are nice binoculars for the price, but the Swift Horizon are better and the Leupold Cascades are better still.

Obviously, going around the world increases the risk of loss or damage, so this alone could justify a less expensive, but good enough for the job, pair.

If you were to compare the Leupold to the Swift Audubon HHS or the Swift Ultralite then comparison would be much more difficult, but they certainly give a better, sharper, crisper image than the Horizons or the Oregons.

Yes, identification of various constalations etc can be seen with a pair of 8x42.

The BBC have a telescope guide which indicates 8x (or even 7x) binoculars can be used.

Are the current model of Cascades phase corrected? As I believe that Leupold have now updated the model since the last post on this subject?

You are indeed correct.

The stocks of Leupold Cascades are now coming through with Phase Coatings.

Thanks for the rapid response Chris it s much appreciated. Such good service is lamentably rare these days.

I m still trying to decide on whether to go for the Leupold Cascades or the Swift Audubon HHS But whatever my decision my business is definitely coming your way! :-)

By way of helping the decision along how does the UK warranty support compare between the Leupold s and the Swifts?

Thank you for your kind comments, we have a simple concept - someone asks a question, we try and answer it!

We have never had to return any Leupold equipment for repair, as such, I do not know how long it would take.

We have never had to get an Audubon HHS repaired, however, we have sent the occasional pair of Swift back for repair, this usually takes about a week (two at the most).

They are both excellent binoculars, there is not much to choose between the two, the Swift have slightly more magnification which normally means a darker image, but the 44mm objective lens compensates for this (it does however make them slightly heavier).

If you are anywhere near Lincoln, come and have a look at them both (just give us a ring to make sure we have them both in stock at the time).

I am about to obtain a pair of these as a present unfotunately the strap is missing. Is it possible to buy a replacement please?

Also have I been correctly advised that these binoculars have the capacity to remove slight tremors when in use?

Spares straps should be available, however, I have spoken to other dealers who have said spares to take a long time to arrive. We have never had to order any spares, so do not have a definate answer.

A non-Leupold strap may be the easiest option (like the wide neoprene Opticron straps in our Accessories section).

There is no stabilisation built into these binoculars, but most people can hand hold them without any problems.
